Emil Hegle Svendsen of Norway claimed his second straight World Cup 10-kilometer sprint victory Friday, while Simone Hauswald of Germany won the women's race for her first World Cup title. Svendsen shot flawlessly and finished in 26 minutes, 8.1 seconds for his eighth World Cup title. Ivan Tcherezov of Russia missed one of 10 targets and finished second, 26.3 seconds behind Svendsen.

Helen Upperton of Canada won a bobsled World Cup race Friday to take the lead in the overall standings. Upperton and partner Heather Moyse posted the fastest time in both heats and won in a two-run combined time of 1 minute, 49.07 seconds. Shauna Rohbock and Valerie Fleming of the United States took second, 0.14 seconds behind.

They call her Queen Yu-na in South Korea and, returning home for her first international competition in her native country, the two-time Grand Prix Finals champion did not disappoint. Kim Yu-na edged chief rival Mao Asada of Japan for the top score in the short program Friday, putting the 18-year-old on course to make it a three-peat.

Innsbruck will host the inaugural Winter Youth Olympics in 2012. The International Olympic Committee has awarded the games to the Austrian city over Kuopio, Finland. The announcement was made Friday by IOC president Jacques Rogge after a vote by more than 100 IOC members. Innsbruck hosted the Winter Olympics in 1964 and 1976.
