Keeping Your Possessions Safe PDF Print E-mail
Of course there are a lot of guides on how to cook, clean, pay bills, plan for university and keeping your possessions safe but here's a guide on how to keep yourself safe. Now in England and Wales  last year there were 382,000 recorded incidents of muggings, don't get worried though here are some good tips to avoid being mugged and how to deal with the event.   Don't be flashy, don't show of your phone and money in pubs and clubs or when you are in the street as it just makes you a target.

  • If you carry a handbag around usually try not to, carry only the bare essentials for when you go out to University or out at night. Carry just the amount of money you will need, it makes you less of a random run and grab attack.

  • Get a cheap mobile phone for when you go out, you can now get phones from £25 from Tesco and other shops. A lot of muggings may start as the mugger asking for the time and you will check your phone, if you have a really expensive phone it will go further, however a cheap PAYG phone isn't really worth their effort.

  • Go out in big groups and stick together on the way home, it's obvious that there is safety in numbers, and keep to well lit streets.

  • Learn self defense, even if you're not a master of martial arts even a small course in self defense can keep you safe when facing a mugger.
